As part of the Child Find Process, students with educational difficulties may be referred for a special education evaluation by their campus Campus Assistance Team (CAT). The classroom teacher, parent, or other professionals who have knowledge of the student may make referrals to the Campus Assistance Team.
The campus CAT initiates a special education referral after general education interventions have been attempted and documented. Parent permission for evaluation is required as well as information from the student’s current teachers, parents, and other staff with knowledge of the student.
A Full and Individual Initial Evaluation (FIE) is completed followed by an Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meeting to review the evaluation. The ARD Committee will determine if a student is eligible for Special Education services, develop an Individual Education Program (IEP), and determine placement.
If you want to make a special education referral contact the Hart ISD counselor, Daisy Hernandez at (806) 938-2142 or the district's special education director, Patrice Hill at (806)647-3103.
